Since landing on
Salt Spring in 2000, I’ve been involved in the life of the
community. I love sailing and jazz and vibrant discussion with
friends over a cup of coffee or bottle of wine. I have volunteered
as president of the summer swim club; as the treasurer,
vice-president and the president of the ArtSpring board; as the
first treasurer of Islanders for Self Government; and as treasurer
of the Salt Spring Island Sailing Club.
I did my
undergraduate degree in computer science at Dalhousie and followed
up with a Masters at Princeton. In my working life, pre-SSI, I was a
software designer and programmer and then a bond trader for a bank.
For two and a half years I advised Salt Spring families about their
finances and investments at an investment dealer in Ganges. In 2003
I opened my own business to offer financial planning services on an
hourly fee basis.
I am not a natural
politician. No good looks, no full head of hair, often desperately
unable to put names to faces. I do love babies though! That has to
count for something.
I believe that somebody has to make the arguments you will find
under
Issues and Positions and ask the voters for support. This year,
I am that somebody.
We need a thoughtful and balanced interpretation of the object of
the Trust, both here on Salt Spring and at Trust Council. On
November 15, you will have your say. I’ll be listening. And as your
Trustee, I will continue to listen.
