Hendren,
Ehring, Torgrimson win by narrow margins.
Salt Spring voters were almost evenly divided in
their choice for elected representatives in the local elections held
Saturday, Nov. 15. Islands trust incumbent George Ehring led the
poles with 26.9% of the 6,525 votes counted, followed closely by
Christine Torgrimson with 25.9 %, Kimberly Lineger with 24.9 % and
Norbert Schlenker with 22.2 %
The race for CRD director was also close with newcomer Garth Hendren's
1674 votes beating out incumbent Gary Holman with 1630 votes.
One choice was clear. Salt Spring voters rejected the province's offer
to add 2 trustees to the local Islands Trust Council, sending a strong
message that a local governance study is needed.
